Gallery X is a gallery in Springfield, RI. Founded in 2015 to showcase work that celebrates letterforms, calligraphic marks, and typography in all its forms, the gallery concentrates on displaying a variety of artists working in diverse media and materials.
Located one hour from Boston, 30 minutes from Providence, and three hours from New York City, Gallery X offers exhibits and an extensive inventory of contemporary work by artists and designers living or working in the area. In addition, the gallery periodically showcases the work of nationally and internationally recognized artists, often serving as the Providence-area venue for travelling exhibitions relate to letterforms, marks, and type.
This year, Gallery X continues to broaden its offerings, highlighting collaborations with the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA), AS220, The National Sculpture Society, MassScribes and AIGA Rhode Island. Also new this year was the first annual juried exhibition “Love Letters” which celebrated the region’s strongest work in this genre.
The gallery is open to all area artists and designers exploring letters, marks, and type while working in any medium. A "call for proposals" is sent out every other Fall, and regular exhibitions are juried by a panel that awards up to two shows each year. All proposals are reviewed anonymously. The jury includes local artists, designers and art historians and its composition changes each year. Special curated and travelling exhibitions are also scheduled up to five times a year.
